Esther’s family were astonished and horrified to see her join the show – but she was spurred on by the prospect of meeting dream campmate George Clooney.

Her fears include heights and spiders – but above all she’s worried about the dreaded Bushtucker Trials.

“This is torture television isn’t it?” she says. “Heights, snakes, spiders, cold water: I loathe them all. I can’t go on roller-coasters, they frighten me witless. So if that sort of ordeal faces me, I might have to try a little self-hypnosis.”
